CHILD LABOUR

The work of labour performed by a child is child labour. Child labour has become a matter of great concern in the Third World Countries. The only work they can do is unskilled labour. They work in hazardous and unhealthy conditions.

They toil in hotels, shops. They work as domestic servants. They clean shoes. They carry heavy loads. They work in garment factories and in construction projects. They work in brick; match and silk factories.

Poverty is the main cause of child labour. Poor families are forced to push young children to work. Various natural disasters also force them to work. Flood, cyclones, river-erosion are the major reasons behind the child labour.

Child labour is rapidly growing in Bangladesh: In Bangladesh the total number of children is 51.5 million. Of them 6.1 million are child labourers. Most of the child labourers are floating. They have no home. They cannot get enough food. Most of them are of broken health.

This picture is reallv disappointing. These working children should have been students, they should have been provided with proper food, proper Medicare in a proper atmosphere.

Then they would certainly turn into ideal citizens and thus could contribute to the development of the country. But in the present situation these children will not grow to be assets of the nation. They will be father a curse or burden for the nation.

These children will grow without any moral education and thus will be involved in various criminal activities. Thus they will create unhappiness and disorder in society. Bangladesh signed up the UN Charter oh Children's Right.

But the picture is really frustrating. The law has not been implemented properly. Result of this is continuous increase in child labour.
